WINTER SOLSTICE: HYMN FOR DARK TIMES
Written by Ann Zimmerman © 2011

Darkness bites another minute off the sunlight of the day.
Cold files its claws for an icy power play
Daylight disappearing, no sign of reprieve,
Going ....going ... so hard to believe
That the light will be coming back.

You should've seen this coming when light was full and clear,
But all you did was bask, as if it always would be here.
Meanwhile darker forces were sharpening their swords
And now they look like victors just counting their rewards
But the light will be coming back.

The light ---- is coming.
The light is coming back.
Darkness may reign for a moment,
But the light is coming back.

Wishing for the sunshine, hoping for the light of day.
Darkness overcomes us, but we light a candle anyway
Seek the light within, cast its rays against the gloom
Gather loved ones close and light their candles too,
And the light will be coming back.

The light ---- is coming.
The light is coming back.
Darkness may reign for a moment,
But the light is coming back.

The light emerges when the love starts growing great,
Love for those who love each other, love for those who hate,
Love beyond the likelihood you'll ever get it back,
To light the darkest corner, to warm the coldest crack.
Sure the light will be coming back.

When you look across the table, see acceptance in the eyes,
As you share your meal together and you speak without disguise,
Then the sun will rise around you even brighter than your dreams,
And the life that hid in shadow will burst forth in glowing green
And the light will be coming back.

The light ---- is coming.
The light is coming back.
Darkness may reign for a moment,
But the light is coming back.
