New Songs Arrive On Time
It's clear I work best with a deadline. I haven't written a song for a long time - but early in March, I realized the Kerrville New Folk deadline was headed right for me. So I did it. I finished two new songs. Deadline: March 15. Recording date: March 14. Song birthday, March 13. Thanks to Studio 1117 recording engineer Aaron Householter for booking me with little notice, and to Steve Jirak for stopping in to the studio to improvise a guitar part for the new blues number, "His Winter." The other song, "Lullaby Waltz (It Won't Be Long)," only needed my own piano accompaniment. I'm happier than usual with how the songs turned out. Hope the Kerrville judges are, too. However, victory is quite unlikely - based on my many zillion prior attempts at this contest.
